16 June – International Day of Family Remittances
Every year on 16 June, the world observes the International Day of Family Remittances (IDFR). The observance was established at the initiative of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and was officially recognized by a United Nations General Assembly Resolution.
This day honors the contribution of millions of migrant workers who, while working far from home, support their families and make a significant contribution to the social and economic development of their home countries.
The International Day of Family Remittances serves as a reminder that remittances are not only a vital source of financial support for individual families but also an important driver of sustainable development, poverty reduction, and greater financial inclusion.
The banking system of the Republic of Tajikistan continuously implements measures to ensure that remittance services are accessible, secure, and efficient. Key priorities include expanding digital financial services, promoting cashless payments, creating broader opportunities for the use of electronic wallets and remote banking services, and improving the financial literacy of the population.
These efforts enable citizens to receive and use remittances more quickly, more securely, and at lower cost, while also supporting the development of the digital economy and enhancing access to modern financial services.
