How to use POS Terminals for paying for goods and services
1. Present your payment card
You can pay using a bank card (national or international) or a mobile phone with an electronic wallet that supports NFC technology.
2. Entering the payment amount
The cashier enters the purchase amount into the POS terminal. Before confirming the payment, always verify that the amount displayed on the screen is correct.
3. Using your card (or bringing your device close to the terminal)
Depending on the type of card and terminal, one of the following methods is used:
Contactless payment (Contactless/NFC): Hold your bank card or mobile phone near the terminal's reader (most domestic bank cards support this payment method).
Chip payment: Insert your card into the chip reader at the bottom of the terminal.
Magnetic stripe payment: Swipe your card through the magnetic stripe reader located on the side of the terminal.
4. Enter your PIN
Enter your PIN using the terminal keypad.
Always shield the keypad when entering your PIN. Never write your PIN on the front or back of your bank card. Keep the receipt after every transaction, as it serves as proof of payment if needed.
5. Authorization (transaction approval)
The POS terminal connects to the bank's processing center via the Internet. The bank verifies that sufficient funds are available in your account and either approves or declines the transaction. This process usually takes only 2–3 seconds.
6. Receipt printing
Once the payment has been successfully completed, the terminal prints a receipt. One copy (or an electronic receipt) is provided to the customer, while the second copy remains with the merchant.
Today, POS terminals are an essential part of the cashless payment system. Therefore, everyone should know how to use them correctly and safely.
