Electronic Wallet — a Modern Payment Tool

Electronic Wallet — a Modern Payment Tool
An electronic wallet is an electronic payment instrument in which electronic money is stored and through which transfers of electronic funds are carried out.
Usually, the funds are stored in a bank account, while the electronic wallet serves only as a tool for accessing and using them.
What is required to open an electronic wallet?
Mobile phone: to access the electronic wallet application.
Phone number: for registration and obtaining access to the electronic wallet.
Bank card: in some cases required to link the wallet and make payments.
Personal information: for identity verification (identification) and security purposes.
Identification of an electronic wallet
To gain full access to electronic wallet services, including sending and receiving money, withdrawing cash, and increasing transaction limits, identification of the electronic wallet is required.
Without identification, financial transactions carried out through the electronic wallet are limited.
Capabilities of electronic wallets
In the Republic of Tajikistan, electronic wallets are used to purchase goods, transfer money within the country and abroad, exchange currency, repay loans, top up accounts, and pay for public and private services.
Electronic wallets have become an important part of the modern financial world, and their use among the population of the country continues to grow.
As of December 31, 2025, the total number of electronic wallets opened by 27 financial credit institutions reached 17.7 million, which is 5.6 million or 46.4% more than on the same date in 2024.
Electronic wallets accelerate financial processes, reduce the circulation of cash in the informal economy, expand access to digital services, contribute to the development of e-commerce and cross-border payments, and overall increase the efficiency of the national payment system.
If your rights are violated while using electronic wallets, you can contact the hotline of the National Bank of Tajikistan at 44-600-15-20.
